TWD: The episode that gave me so many feels, Season 3 Episode 12: Clear

Heeeey!  So I’m currently in the midst of a rewatch of The Walking Dead, to prepare for the new season which starts Oct 23.  This particular episode resonated with me the first time I watched it and this time it is AGAIN making me feel all the things.  There’s so much beauty in this episode, yet so much sadness.  Alright, so let us start at the beginning, shall we?

Back to where it started

The Governor has pretty much called a war between Woodbury and Daryl’s group. (I know, everyone calls it Rick’s group but I’m #teamDaryl so I’m calling it what I want!)  daryl-the-walking-dead-episode-10

Rick has decided that it’s time to go back to the old neighborhood and see if they can find any supplies and weapons so they can fight against the Governor.   Carl begs to go and Rick allows it, so he, Carl and Michonne set off to a new adventure! #cheesy

While driving they pass a dude running along the street begging for them to stop.  I’m sad for him, but I understand why they don’t stop, as they definitely have to have a trust no one  way of life at this point.  It’s clear that Carl is sad about passing him up as well, but he keeps quiet  about it.  Michonne is driving and has to go around some stopped cars on the road and of course, the car gets stuck.  Zombies show up, a bit of chaos ensues, they kill all the zombies and innovatively (pretty sure I just made that word up) they use zombie body parts to get themselves unstuck, zombies CAN be useful!  The whole time, dude is running along the street screaming for them to wait for him.  They don’t, because at this point you have to fear the living, right?

As they get closer to the neighborhood, there are many warnings written on walls and on the ground.  Those should certainly be ignored, because most likely the people that wrote them are dead anyway.

The trio get to the town and discover that it’s been taken over by booby traps, but that doesn’t deter them as they work their way through the traps until a man on a roof starts shooting at them.  They have a decision to make, leave as the man is telling them to, or take him down so they can push forward.   They discuss it, because there’s obviously time for that since the guy is literally counting to 10, and they decide to take the guy out.  Rick tells Carl to go to the car and in true Carl fashion, he doesn’t.   Instead he shoots the guy in the stomach.   Rick lifts up the guys shirt to see if he was hurt and found that he was wearing a bulletproof vest, lucky for that guy!  Eventually he gets around to taking off the guys helmet and then my world was rocked.

YES!  It’s Morgan, the guy from the very first episode, who literally saved Ricks life. I was a huge Morgan fan from the get go ( I guess I was a Lennie fan, I loved him in Jericho, so I just wanted to see him again) and was sad when I realized he wasn’t going to be a part of the main cast, so I was SO SO SO beyond excited when I saw his face again!  Of course, he’s unconscious so I have to wait anxiously for him to see that Rick is still alive.  They get Morgan inside the building and find that he has all of the weapons that Rick was trying to go get.  Michonne wants to take the weapons and go, but Rick is adamant that they will stay until Morgan wakes up, he still has a huge sense of loyalty to him and I LOVE that!  Michonne starts eating Morgans food, which Rick questions, her reply of “the mat says welcome” is literally what made me fall in love with Michonne.  I love me some smart ass.  Carl tells his dad that he’s going to go find a crib for Judith, and Michonne says she will go with him while Rick waits for Morgan to regain consciousness.

Michonne and Carl bond

It’s so sweet.  Carl has totally had mixed emotions about Michonne until this moment, they come across a cafe that Carl and his parents must have frequented often because there is a framed photo of them on the wall.  There’s zombies, rats as bait and lots of gore while Carl is trying to get the picture.  Eventually they are overrun and have to leave the building.  Carl gives Michonne the big eyes and she goes back in and gets the photo like it’s no big deal.  She also grabs a painted cat sculpture for reasons, seriously this woman is the shiz.

Meanwhile, Morgan is awake!  It’s pretty apparent once he wakes up, that he is a few zombies short of a full horde.  The first couple of minutes after he wakes up results in him trying to kill Rick, he claims that Rick is “wearing dead man’s faces.” and ends up stabbing Rick in the shoulder, no big deal for Rick though, he finally talks Morgan down and they are able to sit and have a semi civil conversation.  We find out that Morgan’s son Duane was turned by his mother which is absolutely the most heartbreaking thing ever, if Morgan had simply shot her in the head like he really really should have, his boy would still be alive.  Tragic, and the story brought me to tears, (Lennie James is a phenomenal actor.) Rick tells Morgan he should come back to the prison with them, but Morgan has already figured out that there’s a war based on their need of weapons.  He agrees to give Rick the guns, but has no desire to be a part of the war.

I’m heartbroken again as Rick, Michonne, Carl and a pack and play head back to the prison minus my second favorite character.  They start the drive  and pass a mess of a human on the side of the road, a few feet further is a pack that looks exactly like the pack that was on the dude that was begging them to stop for him.  They reverse the car, grab the pack and are on their way.

In closing…

I loved everything about this episode.  Michonne showed her sassy side and it was everything.  I plead with The Walking Dead Gods that Morgan will come back and actually become a full time cast member.  (Spoilers, he does and I can’t wait to get to that point in my rewatch!)

I really enjoyed doing this blog, I think I might do recaps of all my favorite episodes from all my favorite fandoms!  If you don’t already watch The Walking Dead, you should.  It’s got gore, it’s got love, loyalty, friendships, more blood and guts and stuff and super creative ways to kill zombies and your favorite characters!  It’s on Netflix, you should watch it.  For real, just go now.  Report back when you’re done!

Fandoms, we all have them…

Posted by on Sep 13, 2016 in Fandoms | 0 comments

So, I’m almost 40 years old. I’m not ashamed to say it, I may be almost 40, but I’m hella cool. Yup, hella. I dye my hair purple, and I have tattoos. Told you I’m hella cool. I also love nerd things, like a teenager loves boy bands. Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Walking Dead… I can’t list all of them because it would take up this entire blog, but it’s a lot. I’m loud and proud about my fandoms, because I feel that you are NEVER too old to love things. I show my love, I have pins on my purse, fandom tattoos, fandom stickers on my car, I’m a teenager in a 38 year old body, with the knowledge of someone that is super smart. I really just want to stress how OK it is for you to love something. It’s also OK for you to let everyone know you love it! You don’t have to hide things, who cares what others think?! You’re not too old!

A few months ago, I went to my first Con, Wizard World Philly. It was an amazing experience, we dressed my daughter up as The Childlike Empress from The Neverending Story movie and she had an absolute blast. The movie The Neverending Story was a huge part of my childhood, my brother and I had the movie on VHS and watched it a million times, we had a cassette recorder and we would act out scenes. As soon as my kids were old enough, I sat them down and we watched it together, my older boys did not appreciate the awesome that is this movie, because they are icky boys but my daughter, my shining light… she loved it. She loved it so much that she wanted to BE the Childlike Empress and the con allowed her to do that!

For a day, she was magic, she was light and she loved every single second of it. IMG_9670

As we were leaving the con, she asked when the next one would be.
She had a leather satchel of pink crystals, which she handed to each person who recognized her character. There was so much love for her cosplay throughout the day and she really, really enjoyed putting a smile on people’s faces by handing them the crystal, which represented the last grain of sand that remained of Fantasia. I definitely lived vicariously through her. I ended up finding a blog about her on Twitter Click to read the awesome blog! which told about how she completely turned the Con around for one woman and her son. What a fantastic feeling, knowing that my daughters cosplay made someone really see the awesomeness that is a comic convention.

That’s what being a dorky, geeky, fandom loving nerd is all about, FUN! The joy you get when you dress up as your favorite character, the joy you spread when someone sees you dressed up and they love that character too! Life is meant to be enjoyed, and loving stories, characters, shows, movies, all of those things make life fun! So I’ll repeat, you are absolutely never too old to love something, and you should never ever hide that love, or be embarrassed. If you haven’t seen The Neverending Story, you should definitely watch it, cheezy 80’s graphics and all, it’s a beautiful childhood story. As always, I have a link here, it’s for the first and second movie. The second movie stars Jonathan Brandis who was my absolute favorite actor when I was a teen, and the movie is only 5 bucks, so just do it.

Fantastic beasts! Who’s excited?! And other HP stuff…

So, who loves Harry Potter world? I do! Did you guys know there’s a new movie coming out that is set in that same magical place? Well there is! It’s called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and I bet it’s going to be amazing! It’s based on a book, but they also have the screenplay coming out as well, I will drop a link at the end of this post so you guys can pick it up on Amazon and give it a read. It doesn’t come out until November but if you’re a Potterhead like myself, you will definitely pre order it so it will be in your magical hands the day it’s released. I’m super excited to see more of the wizarding world, November can’t come fast enough! I recently did a re read of the Harry Potter series and every time I finish reading them, I feel like I’ve lost my friends. It’s just so hard when it’s over! When The Cursed Child came out, I was literally like a kid in a candy store. I got my copy, sat my butt on the couch and pretty much read the entire thing in one sitting. I fell in love with Snape all over again and had so much apathy for little Albus. I also found a true affection for the son of Malfoy, Scorpius tugged at my heartstrings quite a lot, and in true J.K. fashion, he was quite the sarcastic fella, which I do love. So, I’m excited to enter that world again through the Fantastic Beast movie, I’m certain it’s going to be everything I want and more. We’ll definitely have to discuss here, once it comes out!

Reading is fundamental

Posted by on Sep 1, 2016 in Fandoms | 3 comments

Growing up, I read. As an adult I’m a total introvert, I don’t do well in social spaces with a lot of people, I feel awkward. As a child/teen, I was pretty much the same way, so instead of interacting with kids, I read. I was the nerd that went to the library at lunch and read my Sweet Valley High books (Jessica was such a rebel!) My love for reading has only multiplied as an adult, and I don’t have as much time to read as I would like, but I do it when I can. I’ve tried to instill that love into my nerdy children. Luckily, my older boys enjoy reading, and my oldest actually does it for fun! I was so incredibly stoked when he was old enough for me to pass my beloved collection of books by my favorite author, on to him. Who is my favorite author? I know you’re super curious… Christopher Pike. He was popular in the 90’s, he wrote YA fiction that is totally twisted and so enjoyable to read. I collected every single one of his books and kept them. I didn’t even keep them with the intentions of passing them on to my children, I kept them because I loved them and wanted to have them forever.

As I said, my oldest enjoys reading, so as soon as I felt he was old enough, I introduced him to the awesomeness that is Christopher Pike. After the first book, he was hooked, and I was one thrilled mom! He read through the book in just a couple of hours, and then we discussed how amazing the book was, and how enjoyable the writing style is, how the characters are likable and funny! I love a good sarcastic character and Christopher Pike is fantastic at creating that. Since that first book, my son has read nothing but Christopher Pike (with the exception of the new Harry Potter that recently came out, he took a break to read that and if you haven’t read it, you should!) If you like YA, don’t be embarrassed, embrace it! I love YA books, and I definitely read more YA books than any other type. You guys should leave me a comment if you like YA, so I don’t feel all alone on the earth as a 38 year old YA lover. Also, if you love YA, you should check out Christopher Pike, because as I’ve mentioned, he’s amazing. I’m adding a link here for you, it’s my favorite series of his, and it’s super cheap so you should pick up a copy and give it a try. I promise you’ll love it and then you’ll love him just like I do! If you’re looking for something new to read, try it out. It’s 3 books in one, and they are such a fun read, click the linky if you want, and then buy the book, if you want to read something good. If you don’t want to read something good, then don’t click the link and don’t buy the book, there’s no pressure here… I’m not telling you how to live your life. It’s good though, for real.
